There are a number of dogs here, all pets, all unique characters, like Pip the collie who was rescued from an uncaring owner who was starving her to death, or our very ancient 18 year old Beagles, Preston and Passion, then there's the nutter scared of guns dog, Faith, our Gordon Setter and lets not forget Poppy our Golden Retriever rescued from a puppy farm in west Wales. Throughout the year the canines are added to as various rescues and foster placements happen.

The Berners live with this fabulous mix of shapes and sizes, and whilst Reba is undoubtedly "top dog" of the Rock HQ pack, the Dolyhir Clan get no special treatment over the pet rescues.

We now have seven Bernese, six of our own and one on long term foster placement, and we do have litters of puppies from time to time, but that's where the similarity between us and most breeders ends. Ours are family pets, they all live in the family home, sofa space is at a premium most evenings. Recently we built an extension on the cottage, the Berner annex, a lovely big room with sofas in where they sleep, or hang out watching TV waiting for the call to dinner. The dogs have five acres of their own ground to play in and a further 500 acres of mountainside as a back yard which they put to good use every day. Ours are happy, healthy dogs and we aim to keep the breed that way.
